Summer Soirée Skin Prep
The best party skin doesn’t come from your makeup, it’s all in the prep!
Maintaining a fresh, clear complexion ready for special occasions is easy with the right tools in your belt (aka bathroom!)
Give your skin some TLC to help it through the festive season with these tips from our FENN skincare team.
1. Set the mood…
Make a moment out of your party prep, light a candle, we love Posie or Addition Studio’s incense for calm but invigorating vibes and turn on some tunes to get you in the mood.. we love the retro vibes of this 70’s soul & funk playlist, listen here. If you’re feeling a bit reserved about social occasions (a common experience post pandemic) we recommend a few drops of Alexis Smart’s Wall Flower Remedy, formulated to enhance self-esteem, gifting the user with charisma and confidence, and igniting a joy in connecting with people.
Your skin may benefit from adding in extra exfoliation, but gently. We love Medik8’s Sleep Glycolic (1-2 times a week before bed) to chemically exfoliate, and then for pre party skin care prep we love to go in with a gentle physical exfoliant to buff off any build up and reveal smooth, clear skin. This step will help provide a clear palate for any makeup you apply and help it to last longer. Our go to’s for gentle exfoliation are Maryse’s Manuka Leaf Exfoliant and Emma Lewisham’s Illuminating Exfoliant.
3. Fenn Cryo-Kinetic Treatment
Skin prep with our new Cryo-Kinetic Facial. A luxurious and uplifting facial that will leave your skin feeling fresh, clear and sculpted. Cleansing, cooling and contouring, this treatment was designed to deeply clean and rejuvenate the skin utilising facial massage techniques, LED Light, Cryo (cold) Therapy and facial massage, combined with bespoke skincare to support your complexion. 4. Pre-party mask
If you can’t get a facial treatment before a special function, having one of these masks on hand at home will help to hydrate, enliven and brighten your skin. Medik8’s Ultimate Recovery Bio Cellulose Mask or Rationale’s #2 The Mask .
5. Soothing irritated skin
For taming any breakouts (which can often show up right when you don’t need them to) and reducing any redness or irritations we make sure we have the following in our skincare first aid kit. Medik8’s Calm Wise Serum works effortlessly to reduce redness and soothe an irritated complexion . Party season can place extra stress on our skin as we may indulge in extra cocktails or salty and sweet treats, extra time in the sunshine or wearing extra makeup may aggravate skin, so it’s important to counteract these indulgences where possible.
For managing breakouts we turn to Activist Manuka products to zap any zits with their Manuka Essential Oil and Manuka Honey 1000+ MGO - a spot treatment overnight works to reduce inflammation and dispel bad bacteria.
For a soothing treatment on irritated, breakout prone skin we love to reach for Lesse Bioactive Face Masque - this is great as a spot treatment or for all over your face - soothing the skin and reducing heat and inflammation associated with breakouts.
6. Double cleanse
The cardinal sin of skincare is not removing your makeup post party, if you can only manage one thing when you get home - this step is it. You will thank us later.
A double cleanse will ensure you remove makeup and then cleanse your skin - this will reduce the chance for cakey, irritated skin the next morning. We recommend to cleanse first with an oil or balm as this helps to shift heavier layers of sunscreen or makeup with ease. Rationale’s Pre-Cleanse Balm was designed specifically for this step, and we also love Josh Rosebrook’s Essential Balm Cleanse and Sans Ceuticals Goji Cleansing Face & Body Oil.
We love a refreshing spritz to hydrate complexions and to enhance absorption of serums and moisturisers. Our favourites include Josh Rosebrook’s Hydrating Accelerator and Lesse’s Regeneration Mist. These are great to apply before serums or throughout the day when you need to refresh or soothe your skin - we highly recommend popping in your beach bag.
At FENN we are loving the new range of overnight masks now available - these are a great option to supercharge hydration and healing, and are a great quick option post party. The ultimate option for lazy girl beauty. After cleansing and misting slather on one of these beauties to get the most out of your beauty sleep; Sans Ceutical’s Superdose Sleep Infusion Masque, Josh Rosebrook’s Advanced Hydration Mask or Emma Lewisham’s Supernatural Sleeping Mask.
9. LED Light
An LED session is a great pre and post occasion step - helping to reduce inflammation, even and brighten skin tone and promoting repair. The OmniLuxe Contour Face Mask is ideal for at home sessions or you can pop in to FENN for a quick refresh and a quiet moment under the OmniLuxe LED Light, an LED sessions starts at $140 or you can purchase a series of 8 treatments for $980. Book directly here.
For bonus restoration and hydration we love to apply the OmniLuxe Contour Hydrogel Face Mask whilst under the light.
We can’t go past a recommendation from our naturopath Alice, and her number one tip for the festive season is to ensure you’re hydrated - drink at least one glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have or try out a mocktail instead, there is an impressive range of alcoholic beverages around these days, we love a Seedlip Mocktail or Mayde Tea’s Cleanse Blend served iced with fresh mint or lemon.
Support your liver with bitter veggies and herbs (think broccoli, rocket or try a herbal tincture for liver support from Alice) plus ensure you are reaching your daily fibre and (clean) protein intake, this will help to remove toxins and balance blood sugars from not-so-healthy indulgences. This will also help your complexion, reducing internal inflammation helps to limit and reduce external inflammation. So don’t forget to reach for salad and veggies before (or after) dessert!

Wishing you all a safe, happy and fun festive season!
