Olivia Boyd-Smith

Olivia Boyd-Smith, founder of Par Olive
What is your earliest memory of caring for your skin?
I have been very fortunate that my mother instilled the importance of skincare and SPF in me from my very early years. I remember at around 12, she placed me on a simple cleanser, moisturiser and SPF regime, and then from 14 she incorporated Environ AVST, which is a really gentle vitamin A moisturiser. I was always (and still am) in awe of her skincare regime, she is so mindful and ritualistic with it, and it truly shows. I aspire to follow in her footsteps (in many ways).
What are your non-negotiables for skin and body care?
I've recently been inspired by two of my beautiful girlfriends Sam and Georgia and I'm taking my bodycare up a notch. I've always exfoliated and moisturised, but I've recently been incorporating more body serums and body oils. I love the Necessaire Body Serum and Sans Ceuticals Body Oil post shower, and they are my new non-negotiables I don't know how I ever lived without.
For my face, my non-negotiables ingestibles are my daily PEARL Marine Collagen by my brand Par Olive in my morning coffee, 2 Nordic Naturals Fish Oil capsules, and a new product coming to Par Olive (sorry to tease!) which has made such a huge difference to my skin tone and texture over the past 2 months.
Topically, an oil cleanser (I interchange brands, but often just use Cerave), Rationale #1 Hydragel, Rationale #4 The Creme, and SPF of course. In the evening I double cleanse, and interchange each night between Biologique Recherche P50, or Rationale #6, and then seal it all in with Rationale #4.
What activity do you do which makes you feel most like yourself?
A park walk with my girlfriends. The past 2 years have been a whirlwind of highs and lows starting and scaling my company. The personal growth I've experienced has been truly profound. I'm more myself now than ever, and my friendships have all deepened so beautifully. I've recently turned 30, and it's so special seeing all of my girlfriends following their own unique journeys. Some are having children, getting married, starting businesses, changing careers, ending relationships, and starting new ones. We are all in such delightfully different stages, and I love connecting, giggling and being out in nature together.
What time of the day do you feel the most energetic and what do you usually do in those moments?
Usually midday. I've ticked off the urgent tasks for the day first thing in the morning, and if I haven't worked out in the morning, I'll take a midday Lagree class. Exercise is meditation to me, I absolutely treasure that time. I was a ballerina from age 3-16, so Lagree / Pilates feels so natural to me, and I love feeling strong and taking that moment to tune in, and care for myself.
In the last five years, what new belief, behaviour or habit has most improved your life?
From 25-30, I've really learned to trust and believe in myself. I truly think your 20's are a mismarketed decade. I felt quite lost throughout my early - mid 20s, I was constantly following the career path I thought I should, and ignoring my inner knowing. Today, I have such a deep sense of self, my beliefs, values and who I am as a woman. This has improved my life beyond measure, I now truly back myself in my endeavours, take calculated risks and feel extremely fulfilled in my career and relationships, which I am so grateful for.
When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do to re-centre?
I call them my sanity walks. I take my little Dachshund Kramer out for a walk in nature, tune into my favourite playlist of the moment and work through any roadblocks I am experiencing personally or professionally. I will usually be shooting off emails mid walk, or have my notes app open working through solutions. Taking that time to tune out, move my body and get outside really helps me.
On an ongoing basis, I ensure I am taking care of my nutrition, sleeping patterns, relationships and down time to keep moments of overwhelm to a minimum.
What was the catalyst for your business?
I truly created the brand through need. I am so conscious of the food I consume - shopping at farmers markets, local butchers for grass fed meats, and fishmongers for local wild caught / sustainably sourced fish, and I saw such a disconnect with the ingestible beauty / supplement industry. I would turn the back of supplements, and they never state where / how the animal derived ingredients are sourced, where from, and there was always unnecessary fillers like maltodextrin (corn thickener), artificial and 'natural' flavourings added, which is counterintuitive if you are taking a product to support skin, hair and nail health.
I then teamed up with a leading Australian Dermatologist and Dietician, and an Australian Manufacturer to create a formula that is not only clinically proven, but also sustainably sourced and fully traceable ingredients. I wanted a product that not only works, but I knew I was taking the highest grade and most pure ingredients on the market, so I set out to create it.
What were the non-negotiables when you were creating PEARL?
Traceability, meaning we know exactly where the individual ingredients are sourced from. The collagen in PEARL is only sourced from wild caught cod skin in Norway, as that is the most pure source of collagen in the world. We can trace each jar down to the time of catch and registration of the boat in Norway - we have complete visibility over our supply chain, and direct relationships with our suppliers, which is so important to me.
Sustainability is another huge non negotiable. Whilst we are not perfect, I work towards doing the absolute best we can as an Australian made and owned brand, and I feel it is our duty. Our primary packaging is glass, and our secondary refill packaging is recyclable and made from sugarcane. As new sustainable packaging technology emerges, I am making it a top priority to integrate this and be as sustainable and environmentally conscious as possible
Do you have a favourite recipe you use with PEARL?
Every afternoon I cherish my collagen Matcha. I use 2 tsp. of our PEARL Japanese Matcha mixed into a cup of steamed almond milk, and a tsp. of honey. It's incredibly creamy, has less than half the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee, and gives me a smooth energy boost and dose of PEARL collagen in one.
Current FENN favourites
Rationale #4 The Creme has been so nourishing this winter, but I could envelop myself in the entire FENN store if I'm honest. Everything is so exquisitely curated, I always wander around in awe.

I was obsessed with Succession, following that the past 2 months of work in Australia has been quite full on, so I've fallen asleep in 5 minutes flat whenever I've watched anything since. I'm a really fun time!
