CG: Firstly, wow - I am truly so so mind blown by your range, it is uncompromising in every aspect. Formulation, ingredients, textures, uniqueness..the word trail blazing comes to mind! You are truly a force Janine!

CG: Let's talk about your background - for our community, can you share a little bit about yourself and what led you to formulate your own line?

JK: My journey into creating Janine Knizia Skincare was actually very personal. Quite simply, I didn’t like the idea of my skin aging and that´s why I became deeply curious and almost obsessed about whether the process could be slowed, supported, or even “biohacked” through science, advanced ingredient research and intelligent formulation.

That curiosity (and obsession) turned into years of research and questioning the status quo of the beauty industry. I immersed myself in studying skin biology, longevity science, and the mechanisms behind skin aging. My goal was to understand how we can actively support the skin as we approach our 40s, 50s and beyond. A time that can be particularly challenging for many women as hormonal changes, collagen loss, and slower regeneration start to become more visible.

What I discovered was that many products on the market were making compromises, whether it was ingredient quality, potency, or formulation complexity. Often, because of margins, costs, or trends. That never resonated with me, and I always wanted more: more science, more powerful ingredients, and truly effective formulations.

So I decided to create what I couldn’t find.

With Janine Knizia Skincare, the philosophy has always been very clear: no compromises. I focus on sourcing the most advanced ingredients, using clinically backed actives at meaningful concentrations, and formulating products that truly support the skin’s long-term health and resilience. I’m not interested in cutting corners or optimizing for cost—I’m interested in creating the best of the best.

With Janine Knizia Skincare, the philosophy has always been very clear: no compromises. I just thought: I’m going to make my own products, exclusively for myself, using the most resilient, nutrient-rich botanicals and potent anti-aging, skin-communicating ingredients at the highest concentrations. Drawing on time-honored traditions and next-generation science, cost was just no object – this was purely a pursuit of excellence for my own skin.

JK: It really did take close to a decade, because I was incredibly uncompromising about what made it into the skincare line.

Every formula had to meet several very strict standards before I would even consider it finished. First and foremost, the ingredients had to be truly exceptional: nutrient-dense botanicals, advanced actives, and skin-communicating ingredients that were both scientifically validated and used at meaningful, effective concentrations. I was never interested in adding something simply for marketing and every ingredient had to earn its place.

Secondly, the formulation had to deliver visible results while still respecting the skin barrier. Potency while strengthening and supporting the skin to repair, rejuvenate and turning back the clock.

Texture, absorption, and sensorial experience were also essential. I wanted formulas that felt and smelt extraordinarily beautiful on the skin. I want the WOW effect.

And finally, if a product didn’t feel like the absolute best version possible, it simply didn’t make the cut. I wasn’t working to launch quickly or to meet a commercial timeline. I was developing products I personally wanted to use every single day.

That level of patience and refinement is ultimately why the range took so long to develop but it’s also what makes each formula so intentional and different from anything else in the market.

CG: *Can you also talk to us about telomere production...

JK: One of the fascinating areas of longevity science is the role of Telomere biology in cellular aging. Telomeres are protective caps at the ends of our chromosomes that preserve the integrity of our DNA during cell division. As cells replicate over time, telomeres gradually shorten, and when they become too short the cell loses its ability to regenerate effectively. In the skin, this contributes to slower renewal, reduced collagen production, and visible aging.

The body has a natural enzyme called Telomerase, which helps maintain telomere length, but its activity declines with age and is highly sensitive to environmental stress. Factors like UV radiation, pollution, and oxidative stress accelerate telomere shortening, which is why protecting skin cells at the molecular level is so important.

In our research at Janine Knizia Skincare, we look for ingredients that support cellular resilience and DNA protection. One particularly unique ingredient we work with is a bio-fermented marine microorganism derived from the sea breeze ecosystem of Tonga. Through a controlled fermentation process, this microorganism produces highly active protective metabolites and antioxidants.

Marine microorganisms evolve in extremely harsh environments, these are exposed to intense UV radiation, salt, and oxidative stress so they develop superior biological defense systems. When applied to the skin, these bio-fermented compounds help reduce oxidative stress and support the cellular environment that protects DNA structures, including telomeres.

JK: What excites me most about emerging biotechnology in skincare is that we are finally moving beyond treating the surface of the skin and beginning to influence the cellular mechanisms that drive aging. At Janine Knizia Skincare, the philosophy is rooted in regenerative science - supporting how skin cells produce energy, communicate with each other, and repair themselves.

One area I find particularly fascinating is bio-identical exosome technology and to find the real stars. Exosomes are essentially microscopic messengers that carry proteins, lipids, and signaling molecules between cells. In our formulations, bio-identical exosomes derived from botanical sources such as grapefruit, watermelon, and apple extracts help deliver regenerative signals to the skin. These signals can stimulate cellular activity, encourage renewal, and boost ATP production - the energy currency of the cell - which is essential for healthy, resilient skin.

Another breakthrough technology we incorporate involves NAD⁺-supporting actives. NAD⁺ is a critical coenzyme present in every cell that plays a central role in cellular metabolism and DNA repair. As we age, NAD⁺ levels naturally decline, which slows cellular energy production and contributes to visible skin aging. Our formulations, such as the NAD⁺-energizing serum, are designed to help replenish NAD⁺ levels and support healthier cellular metabolism, resulting in firmer, smoother skin and improved vitality.

What makes this new wave of skincare so exciting is that we can now combine these advanced technologies with high-concentration botanicals and targeted peptides to amplify results. The goal is not simply cosmetic improvement but true cellular optimization, supporting DNA repair, enhancing energy production within the mitochondria, and encouraging healthy cell turnover.

JK: When developing the range, I had a very specific skin profile in mind: women who are beginning to notice the first deeper changes in their skin and want something far more advanced than traditional skincare. Typically, this starts in the late 30s and early 40s, when cellular energy, collagen production, and skin regeneration naturally begin to slow down.

However, the products are not defined by age alone. They were created for mature and very demanding skin, women who are looking for highly active formulations, cutting-edge biotechnology, and visible performance rather than basic maintenance. These are women who understand their skin, expect efficacy, and are interested in skincare that supports the skin’s biological longevity.

From that point onward, the range is suitable for women of any age beyond that stage. Whether someone is in their 40s, 50s, 60s, or beyond, the focus is the same: supporting the skin’s regenerative capacity, improving cellular energy, and maintaining skin quality over time.

The formulations were therefore designed to address the deeper mechanisms of skin aging, supporting processes such as cellular renewal, mitochondrial function, and skin resilience. My goal was to create skincare for women who want to invest in the long-term health and vitality of their skin, rather than simply correcting surface concerns.

JK: What truly excites me is the moment where advanced biotechnology meets ancient healing intelligence. In my view, the future of skincare does not lie in choosing between modern science and traditional wisdom, but in combining them in the most powerful way.

Systems such as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda have long understood that the skin reflects the overall vitality and balance of the body. These traditions focus on restoring harmony, strengthening resilience, and supporting the body’s regenerative capacity rather than simply correcting symptoms on the surface. That philosophy deeply informs how I approach formulation.

At the heart of our products is our proprietary Qi & Dosha Phyto-Complex, a signature botanical blend inspired by these healing systems. It combines powerful botanicals traditionally used in Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine—including ingredients such as hibiscus, blue butterfly pea, peony, saffron, ginseng, and fermented ashwagandha, all carefully selected for their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties.

Through a fermentation process, these botanicals become more bioavailable and work synergistically to restore vitality and resilience to the skin. The idea is to nourish the skin’s energetic balance, what Traditional Chinese Medicine refers to as Qi, and Ayurveda describes through the concept of doshas while also supporting modern biological pathways such as cellular renewal, antioxidant defense, and tissue repair.

JK: From the very beginning of developing Janine Knizia Skincare, my guiding principle was clear: the formulations had to deliver true biological performance, not simply meet a price point. When you work with advanced biotechnology, regenerative actives, and highly concentrated botanicals, compromises inevitably weaken the formula. I wanted to create skincare where efficacy always came first.

CG: The products feel almost architectural in the way they work together, as though they were designed as a complete regenerative system rather than individual hero products. Was this always your intention when developing the range?

JK: Yes, absolutely. From the very beginning, I never intended to create only isolated “hero products.” My vision for Janine Knizia Skincare was to design a complete regenerative ecosystem for the skin, where each formulation plays a specific role and works in synergy with the others.

I often describe the range as almost architectural, because every product was developed as part of a structured system that supports the skin at multiple biological levels. Skin aging is a complex process involving cellular energy decline, oxidative stress, reduced communication between cells, and slower regeneration. No single ingredient or product can address all of these mechanisms alone,.

That is why the formulations were designed to work sequentially and synergistically—supporting processes such as cellular communication, mitochondrial energy production, DNA protection, and skin barrier integrity. For example, certain products focus on activating cellular energy and renewal, while others reinforce the skin barrier, deliver regenerative signals, or provide intense antioxidant protection.

JK: What happens immediately after applying the products is an incredible sense of plumpness and firmness. The skin simply looks like the healthiest version of itself. Fine lines appear softened, and the skin looks and feels bouncy, elastic, and beautifully radiant. Almost instantly, many women feel as though they look many years younger, and these results continue to improve day after day, week after week.

After around 28 days - one full skin cycle - the transformation becomes even more evident. At that point, most women find it hard to imagine their routine without these products and this is where the addiction starts.

JK: When someone encounters the skincare for the very first time, the reaction is almost always the same: WOW. The textures and the scent are unlike anything most people have experienced before, and the skin feels immediately, completely different. There is an instant sense of transformation: the skin becomes plumper, smoother, and incredibly dewy and alive.

But beyond that initial moment of surprise, what I truly hope people understand is the extraordinary amount of work, dedication, and precision that went into creating these formulations. These are very precious products, and achieving these kinds of results was anything but simple. It required years of development, constant refinement, and an uncompromising commitment to excellence.

I have personally tried and tested thousands of beauty products over the years, and my standards have always been exceptionally high. For me, it was never enough to create something that was simply great. It had to be truly extraordinary and something I never experienced before.

So when someone experiences that WOW moment, I hope they also feel the intention behind it: the expertise, the science, the persistence, and the passion that went into every single detail.

JK: Honestly, it would be impossible for me to choose. I use all five products religiously, and each one has a very specific purpose within the skin biohacking ritual. So, I`m truly obsessed with every single product.

CG: What's coming next! Dying to know

JK: Working on some new product formulations :) My biohacking routine is not finished here!

CG: Will we be seeing you in Sydney soon? 

JK: Yes, yes, and yes! I completely fell in love with Sydney, even so much so that I could move there tomorrow. So you never know what will happen in the future.  But I’m definitely planning to come back in October, when autumn begins in Europe and I start dreaming about the Australian spring.
